Are you an experienced Shoe Fitter? Have you worked in a
shoe shop for more than 4 years?
No matter what your age or position within your company, you are entitled to take our Entrance Examination - as long as you have been involved in footwear for more than four years. A personal page requests information about your employment and the signature of a referee.
How do I take part?
Contact the Secretary and she will forward you a copy of the Examination without obligation to complete it. Alternatively you can click on the following to view a copy: ENTRANCE EXAM - FULL COPY.pdf
Answer the questions to the best of your ability (you can include diagrams, illustrations etc.).
There is no time limit to completing your exam paper. Once it has been sent, you will not be pressured to reply, or receive any further communication until such time you return it for marking.
Once completed, return it to the Secretary together with a cheque for £150 (no VAT as we are a 'not-for-profit' organisation,) made payable to: The Society of Shoe Fitters.
Your paper will then be allocated a number, and sent anonymously to a Board of Examiners for marking (the Secretary removes your Personal page so your entry remains unbiased and private).
The marks are returned to the Secretary who processes them and contacts you accordingly:-
55% - Pass, 75% - Pass with Honours, 90% - Pass with Distinction
What happens when I am successful?
You become a full member of the Society of Shoe Fitters and receive the letters M.S.S.F. after your name.
You receive a certificate, badge of merit, display material and all the benefits of membership (see Home Page).
Your annual subscription fee becomes payable for the year, and you are entitled to receive an entry in the Register of Members should you wish to promote your services..
You are registered on our list of members to receive all mailings, offers etc.
The Secretary will promote you and your services to members of the public requiring assistance.
What happens if I am unsuccessful?
The Secretary will write to you with an explanation. Should you wish to improve upon your paper, you are welcome to do so at no extra charge. If the Examiners or Council are in any doubt as to your experience, they may wish to visit you.
Alternatively, you are welcome to take part on our correspondence course at a reduced rate (we will deduct £100 from the course fee).
If you know you are a good and experienced fitter, then why not prove it?
